I liked the character, just wish she had developed a bit of a backbone at some point instead of seeming like she just let everything happen to her. Trouble signing in? It's simplistic, and dated; the attitudes and themes are puerile; it's repetitive and over-simplified; many lines are then explained ---I can't believe Katie Fforde wrote this. All I can say about this novel is WOW! After Sophie is invited to Thanksgiving, though, Luke is forced to concede Sophie will be there and tries to befriend her, but not without first asking Sophie for a favour of his own…. Getting to take a vacation from the demands of her family, Sophie finds herself in America, with no job and little money. Alex Claremont-Diaz, son of the American President Ellen Claremont, knows one thing for sure: He hates Henry, the British prince to whom he is always compared. She does tell a good story but fighting with typos .. that many typos .. is simply annoying. I went on to read more books by this author and recommend anything written by her. Another lovely read from Katie Fforde. 2.5* A Perfect Proposal was your run of the mill contemporary romance. by A Perfect Proposal was a good example of that skill. She seems to have a easy style of writing which manages to keep your gripped. She spends some time checking him out, remembers she's nude and grabs shower curtain to cover up and proceeds to fuss because shower is off so she didn't know he was there. I really got into this story right away. GENERAL ROMANCE The "hero" Luke ~~ apart from being good-looking and rich ~~ a fact of which the reader is constantly reminded ~~ is spineless and stupid ~~ completely controlled by his grandmother and an older woman who works in his office ~~ it is obviously from the writer's introduction of that latter into the story just who is the "boss" in that particularly lawyer's office. There were definitely examples of language used in which it was very telling that this was written over five years ago, as there were multiple incidents when it was out dated and problematic, in terms of sexism and homophobia.
