These can be played paraphonically with a MIDI input and feature an autotune function to keep the oscillators in tune when not being used. Mother 32 or Erebus V3 or Neutron.
I know this is lame and vague, but the Erebus really does have that "special something" about the sound. The Neutron is a fun, useful and flexible synth. (And the fact it has a very noisy volume knob and i do not want to give it away for like a few bucks.).
Next we come to the filter section; this is of a 2-pole (12dB-octave) low/high-pass design, featuring knobs for cutoff and resonance and a slider to move continuously from low-pass to high-pass modes (with the middle ground creating a notch filter, though sadly there is no band-pass option).
Switching one of the rear panel dip switches allows the synth to operate in duophonic mode, where Osc 1 and 3 play the lowest note and Osc 2 the highest – though, with only one VCA and VCF, envelopes are re-triggered with each note played. Enclosure’s shape is slightly changed to a perfect rectangular, RES patch that had the ability to control either the resonance or the VCA is now only dedicated to VCA, MIDI interface: Midi in/through DIN socket, Pitch note/gate on-off, retrigger function (on-board), Mod wheel (patched on-board), Pitch wheel, MIDI Channel select 1-7 or Omni (DIP switch), MONO AUDIO IN (1/4″ TS-Unbalanced), accepts up to 3Vpp inputs, MONO AUDIO OUT (1/4″ TS-Unbalanced), sends up to 10Vpp o, Gate in: activation at 0.9V in a low gain up to 5V for max gain, Osc1, Osc2, CV IN: works at 1V/oct and can accept from +/-12V, CV1, CV2 outs: send 1V/oct (converted to analog via midi keyboard), Mod Wheel out: converts the midi modulation wheel to analog 0-5V out, Envelope out: 0-6.6V depending on the depth setting, LFO frequency range: 0.009Hz (110sec) up to 30Hz (0.033sec), Suggested room temperature for best oscillator stability: 18-30 Celcius.
Nyx 2 features three digital modulators with controls for rise, fall, and sustain level.
The modular part is great also with for example sample and hold and over all a lot to be done there. I would either get the Neutron or the Erebus.
BA1 1UA. Erebus V3 has 3 VCOs - 1 (SQUARE+SAW), Osc 2 (SAW+TRI) like the original Erebus - though these now have a wider +/- 11 Semitones pitch tuning range, the 3rd VCO is the multiwave SAW Up/down/SQ/ TRI/Sine and Noise and can also go right down into LFO territory, making for a useful trio.
For self–triggering drones, patch the LFO into the gate input. In addition to this routing, the patch bay features 30 patch points which can be connected with 3.5mm patch cables.
OSC's - Erebus: 3 vco's, with the third one being the wilder/weirder of the bunch.
I am really drifting towards the Erebus now with the Neutron as maybe an impulse purchase in a few months, or when it's on sale ;) Although i would like to own a Moog, i don't need a M32 to use a DFAM in the future, i can very much use it together with a Erebus or the Neutron. Please, proceed with this firmware update only if your serial number is below 396. Before me sits a rugged metal box painted in grey and a shade of green that suggests fluorescence (which, sadly, is not the case). Interestingly for a small, affordable analogue, there are two envelopes, an ADSR and an AR type. The filters also feature four routing modes: low pass, band pass, high pass, and parallel. Oscillator glide only works when Erebus is played via MIDI.
These switches have a middle ‘off’ setting — but when you choose it, you don’t get silence. We loved the V2 so how does this stack up? Without these, patching would always be limited to the full range of the modulator, unless you resorted to an external mixer of some kind. The Neutron is so much fun, sounds great, and is also just incredibly useful. Nyx 2 is capable of a huge range of sounds and can be tailored to suit a wide variety of playing styles and applications. This is a fat and bass–heavy synth steeped in squelch potential and it’s therefore a real pity that you’re unable to invoke glide by playing legato.
For example, by connecting the mod wheel to LFO depth you can achieve a far deeper modulation than is possible from the LFO’s unaided depth control. The 30 greatest synth players of all time: keyboard wizards, programming gurus and sound design legends, An AC/DC fan payed $28,000 for a guitar lesson from Angus Young and ended up jamming for hours with the band, Free music samples: download loops, hits and multis from SampleRadar, The 12 best audio interfaces 2020: top audio interfaces for music-making and production, BT's favourite synths of all time: "For nuance, expressive performance and playability it's probably the most elegant, lively sounding instrument I've ever played". And the good news is that they do have the Erebus weight and buzz - thank goodness. What version of the Erebus do you own?
The Dreadbox Erebus is an unusual small–format synth with an inviting price tag. It is mandatory to procure user consent prior to running these cookies on your website. The Nyx 2 begins with two oscillators with waveform selection. Its older machines include the Hades, Erebus and original Nyx – all names of Greek gods of the dead, darkness and the night respectively (you might see a theme here). It’s odd, but at least there is a choice. This quickly becomes too insistent for most conventional musical purposes, but still relevant for sound effects and miscellaneous wackiness. While versions 1 and 2 of this synth were very similar to each other in terms of looks and functionality, the new Erebus has been expanded both physically and functionally – with the most obvious changes being an additional oscillator and envelope plus greater patching capability. I’d estimate the maximum delay time to be around 700ms. Then again, there are omissions that frustrate, not least the lack of auto-glide, which is restrictive for those of us keen to employ the Erebus as a source of monster acid bass." Mod routing features four modes: off, in which neither of them affect the filter; 1 / 2 mod in which 1 controls filter 1, mod 2 controls filter 2; 1+2, in which both mods control both filters; or 1, in which just mod 1 controls the filter. It's just so sweet and smooth. This category only includes cookies that ensures basic functionalities and security features of the website. Certainly a good contender for your cash when it comes to an analogue desktop synth. In order to cut out both VCOs, both waveform switches need to be off. Reproduction in whole or in part in any form or medium without express written permission from Sonic State is prohibited.
Cranborne Audio Camden EC2 Preamp & CAST Expanders. The options quickly boiled down to these three synths, but deciding on one is quite challenging. It’s a 4 pole 2 pole filter that responds like an SEM- Meaning when you crank the resonance up your signal level stays constant and doesn’t drop. These progress to the filter and amp stage together as usual, with the filter envelope’s triggering playing a crucial role in how notes are articulated. There are two full ADSR envelopes. Although it is basic, I would choose this type of effect over a more fully-featured built-in digital reverb every time – especially as the delay time can be modulated via a dedicated CV input, allowing you to create chorus flanging or just complete sonic mayhem as required. On that note, since you already have the microbrute you can use it to sequence the Neutron via CV. Like Osc 1, the pulse width can be modulated using patch points, but here you’ll also find a ‘supersaw’ wave that can come under PW control as well – and this alone makes for some very thick tones. And some like the Moog latter more than this.
